If I were a House...

A while back, my friends Kelly & Leigh & I were talking about what kind of house we would be if we were reincarnated as a house. These are the kinds of discussions we have, & that is one of the many reasons why I love them. The other day, the same subject came up with Todd & Erin & it just got me thinking about it again. I think I said that I would be a "Texas Style" house, like the kind you find in the Hill Country made of limestone with the BIG front porches. I've always loved that style house, they seem so homie & yet very sturdy & indestructable. But after further thought, if I'm being realistic I don't really think that I would make a good Hill Country house. I'm too...random.

A little bit of background on me: (for those of you who don't know me, which is probalby no one who reads this, but just humor me, it's my blog).....When I was a little girl one of my favorite things to do was to look through my mom's old Southern Living magazines. I would spend hours staring at the tiny floor plans of the Southern Living house plans in the back & trace my finger from the front porch all the way to the far nooks & crannies of the attics. I could spend a LOT of time pretending that there was a tiny little 2-D family living in the "4 Bedroom, 3 1/2 Bath Colonial Revival" floor plan.

I also had my own Dream Home floor plan that I would pack full of "art studios" & "ice cream corners." Is it any wonder that I'm now an Interior Designer who creates floor plans for a living? Although it's not as much fun to plan someone's Office as it is to plan the places where people spend time with family making lifelong memories. (no offense, job).

SO...all of this is to say that, I think alot about places & how people move around in them. I love houses, and I don't think I would mind being one in the least!

If I were a house:  I would be a happy house, with a big porch, lots of windows, a little bit country, but with contemporary touch. Not too big, not too small. I picture me being located a few miles outside a town, I'm not really an "in town" kind of house, but I still want to be close to other houses so I don't get too lonely. I would want to be lived in by a little family with 2 kids, preferably a girl and a boy, and they would have a dog that lives outside but can stay in my Mud Room or Screened in Porch sometimes when it's cold. The dad knows how to fix things & takes good care of me. Oh, and the mom is a really good designer who has excellent taste in furniture & art to hang on my walls :)

My Lower Level:

My Upper Level:

I want to know what kind of house you would be! I found my house on the Southern Living website, but the house resources are limitless...Come on! You know you would make an excellent house....

When actually choosing one of those plans of which to build, it was a lot harder to pick one than I thought it would be!

I think I am a victorian, but not a super frilly one. I will find one and post a link.

I am thinking that I would want to be a small, cute, cottage. That seems to be what I am drawn to more than anything else. I will find a cute one that I like when I get home and have more time to think about it. Love, Mom
